Eastern Palace Sunflower Card

How much fun is this card?  I love sunflowers…how about you?  They have a special meaning for me as every time I see one it causes me to stop and remember a special little boy.

If you know me, you know that I love clean and simple cards.  It’s my style for two reasons…one, I need for my card making to be quick!  If I have to spend too much time it just isn’t fun for me.  Are there many of you out there that feel the same?  And two, luckily, I love the look!

I’ve been playing with the Eastern Palace Suite for a couple of weeks now and though I love the entire suite I am crazy in love with the dies!   So I decided for stamp club this month they would get to make this fun clean and simple sunflower card.

  • The Eastern Palace die used for the petals is perfect for making sunflowers.  I use the Precision Plate and Die Brush for all my intricate dies now.  The Precision Plate helps to make deeper cuts so that all the intricate parts of the die are cut through.  Then the Die Brush with it’s mat make it so you don’t have to sit and poke all the little pieces out. These are must have tools if you are into intricate dies.
  • There are a number of wonderful sentiments in the Eastern Palace Stamp Set but I am loving the two curved ones so much!

The Eastern Palace Suite is so much fun. Today's card is a sunflower card made with one of the dies. I love this set the more I use it and see the possibilities.

  • Embossing folders are a great way to give your cards texture.  Here, the center of the sunflower is a 2″ circle that’s been embossed with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder.  I’m sad to say that this folder was on the retiring list and has been sold out since I designed this card for my stamp club.  But, with all the embossing folders both new and old I’m sure there’s a folder that would still look great.
  • The little bee, if you are loving her, is one of the stamps in the Touches of Texture stamp set.  You do have to fussy cut her out but it’ s really easy to do if you have a pair of Stampin’ Up!’s Paper Snips.  They are so sharp and easy to use.

The Eastern Palace Suite is in the new annual catalog that will go live on June 1
but, you can get it now as an early release.

Just a Little Thanks – January 2017 Paper Pumpkin

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I used the January 2017 Paper Pumpkin Kit this past week to deliver Kit Kats to customers, neighbors and a few strangers. In fact there’s a funny little story about some of the recipients I wanted to share before showing you the cute “just a little thanks” card I made using the exclusive stamps from this month’s kit.

Above you can see how the kit was intended to be used with the cute little arrows on top.  I created about half of them exactly as you see for my club members.  But then when I wanted to slip in a business card and it was a bit too tall, I folded in the top to make them more like little bags.  Still cute! With just a little change I could add my business card to the boxes

So I put about 10 of the little treats in a little basket when I left the house yesterday morning with the intention of giving them out to random strangers and then I promptly left them at the Bojangles where I had breakfast.  After lunch with a team member, when I realized I left them, I went back to get them.  I asked the young gal at the counter about my basket full of treats and her face got almost ashen.  She directed me to the counter where they had placed my basket….completely empty!  And then with sheepish looks all the different employees started bringing back the treats to set back in the basket.  I smiled and wished them all a Happy Valentine’s Day and left with my empty basket. I then realized the decision of who received my little treats had been completely taken out of my hands. 🙂

Copper and Gold Foil Fall Card

Fall in north Georgia can be the prettiest time of the year. This year however, with no rain and it staying warm the colors are a bit disappointing.  But leaves cut from Stampin’ Up!’s Copper and Gold Foil certainly don’t disappoint!

Copper and gold foil makes for a simple but beautiful leaf card.

  • I cut two leaves using the Leaflets Framelits from the annual catalog…the larger one in Copper Foil and the smaller in Gold Foil.
  • To keep the leaves from looking like they were just floating around on the card front I embossed the Crumb Cake layer with the Pretty Paisley’s Embossing Folder. I sure hope this folder doesn’t retire anytime soon.
  • Add just a simple Basic Black solid twine to the top of the leaves and your’e done
  • I decided it was too simple and pretty to add a sentiment on the outside.  So this card will be stamped on the inside when it’s ready to be sent

Sheltering Tree/Clear Block Stamping

sheltering tree/block stamping with water

We made this fun fall card in Stamp Club this month using the stamp set Sheltering Tree.  By taking markers, a clear block and some water you can produce some really cool effects.  I loved the way each person marveled at each others cards.  Every card though done the same way came out completely different.  Sure wish now I had taken some pics of all the different looks.

Sheltering tree/thinking of you handmade card

  • The colors in this card are Crushed Curry, Old Olive and Cajun Craze.  I used Stampin’ Write Markers which are water based markers and perfect for this technique.  And the white layer is just Whisper White card stock so no special paper needed.

  • Always remember to color from light to dark.  This is so you don’t contaminate your light color markers with dark ink.  I use Crushed Curry first and then Olive Olive and lastly Cajun Craze.

  • Use a Stampin’ Spritzer with water to spritz the block.  Hold it at arms length and spritz 2 or 3 times.  You will see the colors run and blend a little.  The more water the more it will look water colored.  I used less water on the one above and   had a slightly different look.  Practice and play until you like the look.

  • I have one little Rhinestone in the tree.  Not sure if you can see it …look close.  It sparkles in person!

Last day to enter to win this fun paper, ribbon and button blog candy.  Leave a comment on the original post.  Just comment what your favorite pop of color is when using black and white. I will be announcing the winner on Monday’s blog post.   Good luck everyone.

Speaking of candy…do you have your treats made for Halloween?  If not I thought I would show you two that my team made at our September gathering. Both are quick and easy and they would be perfect to give to teachers, co-workers, trick or treaters, and maybe even the UPS guy when he delivers my order next week. 🙂

Cookie Cutter Skeleton makes this package of bones the perfect Halloween treat. www.stampandembellish.com

  • Saw these adorable candy bones at the dollar store and knew I needed to design a treat holder just for them.
  • You know me…it has to be quick and cute,  It’s made with a folded piece of card stock with a hole cut in the center of the front side.  I used one of the scalloped ovals from the Layering Oval Framelits.
  • The Cookie Cutter Halloween stamp set and Coordinating punch make decorating a snap.
  • I used the Hand Held Stapler to close the top making sure the treat was stapled along with the card stock.  This product is only available while supplies last.  So if you’ve been meaning to purchase one…now is the time.

Cookie Cutter Halloween clear box of chocolate

  • Now for really quick!  Put together a Clear Tiny Treat Box, fill with candy and decorate!
  • This time I used the vampire, colored him with a Pumpkin Pie Marker.
  • Use the Halloween Night Washi Tape around the bottom of the box
  • Tie with some Halloween Night Baker’s Twine and add a little tag if so desired.
